INTEGRATED FURNACE CONTROL (IFC) BOARD SEQUENCE OF OPERATIONS

What does IFC mean?

IFC stands for Integrated Furnace Control and means that the control board contains a microprocessor (very small computer) which contains a set of data that gives equipment a sequence of events in which must be met in order to properly operate. An integrated furnace control board will also incorporate an LED (Light Emitting Diode) which will show the status of the equipment while powered. If the microprocessor senses an issue, the LED will flash a specific number of times and repeat this sequence several times. The number of flashes will represent a specific troubleshooting code to a corresponding code legend located on the control board itself(as shown in the photo above) or on the blower door.

The example photos above show a typical sequence for a gas furnace.
